About the Library

Welcome to the Thoroughbred Horse Pedigree Library! We hope you find the material presented here both useful and enjoyable. Our goal is to make this the best all-around research site for Thoroughbreds on the Web, where you can find both accurate pedigree information and a wealth of information about racing history from all over the world.

As you can see, the horse section of the Library is well under way. Eventually, we plan to add sections for famous owner-breeders, trainers, and jockeys as well. We are also considering a “Tributes”section where users can have their short essays or original poetry about their favorite Thoroughbreds posted for all to read, so that the spirit and beauty of the “ordinary” Thoroughbred can be celebrated as well as the feats of the great ones. If you like this idea, tell us; we appreciate your feedback!

If you’d like to contribute to the Library, great! We’d love to hear from you. There are just a few rules to keep in mind:

1) Submissions should be sent as e-mail attachments to mahubah@tbhorsepedigree.com. Your files can be in any of the following formats: WordPerfect versions 6-10, Word 6.0 or 7.0, WordPad, or Rich Text.

2) The Library will be focusing on horses (memorable racehorses, stallions, and broodmares) and people from the 20th and 21st centuries. Late 19th century horses and people will probably be limited to those whose careers continued into the 20th century. There are already excellent websites available devoted to the early history of the Thoroughbred, and we aren’t out to compete with them in that area.

3) If you’d like to contribute photos or artwork as illustrations for the main portion of the Library, we’ll be glad to consider it if it is submitted as a .jpeg file. Please take a look at Pat Delong’s portraits of the Triple Crown winners (as well as several other horses in the Library) for examples of the kind of quality we’d like to see in any art submitted, though artwork need not be in color – good pencil or ink sketches would be more than welcome. We haven’t decided yet whether we will have artwork in the “Tributes” section, so let us know what you think – if there’s enough demand, we may try this idea as well if space considerations permit.

4) All submissions to the Library must be your original work – no pirating! This goes for text, photos, or art. If your work has been previously published elsewhere, that’s OK with us, but it’s your responsibility to be sure that you don’t infringe on any rights you have sold to any previous publisher(s).

5) All text submissions for the main Library are subject to editing for clarity and accuracy. Tributes will be accepted as is. Photos and artwork images may be resized but will not be otherwise edited. All works will be copyrighted to the submitting author and remain the author’s property. Sorry, no payment is involved other than the pleasure of sharing your knowledge or skill with others.

6) Material will be accepted or rejected for posting in the Library at the sole discretion of the Librarian. Material containing offensive language/images or racial/ethnic/religious slurs will not be accepted – don’t even bother. Also, any material that appears to constitute an advertisement will not be accepted for the Library.

7) There are no official size limits to entries, but please be reasonable; we’re not publishing e-books. Check out the files we already have posted if you have any doubts about appropriate length.

8) If you are a first-time contributor to the Library, please include a short author/artist bio with your submission (not necessary if your contribution is for the Tributes section) for our planned “About Our Contributors” file. Please include information about how you became interested in Thoroughbreds and what special training or background you have had that has contributed to your submission. Also, if you want to make an e-mail address available for people to contact you, this is the place to mention it.

9) All comments and feedback regarding the Library should be sent to mahubah@tbhorsepedigree.com. Also, if you believe you’ve spotted an error in any main Library entry, please let us know what the mistake is and what your source is for the correct information – we won’t be mad, just grateful.

Thanks for sharing the Library with us!
